![]() They aren't seen often until quite late in the game, but they are far and away the strongest direct-fire single-shot weapons (ignoring the rocket launcher). Energy Guns, which comprise Plasma and Laser weapons, are very powerful and quite deadly when used correctly. Many people grab this using the level 12 Tag! perk. The downside, of course, is that Big Weapons are rare and expensive - as is their ammunition - but in the long run of things, they are often quite worth it. The Miniguns in particular are nasty - 400+ Damage on an unprotected enemy is not unheard of. Big Weapons are devastating when used right, and are some of the deadliest weapons in the game, bar none. Most players will take Energy weapons over big guns given the choice. The Big Guns include the Rocket Launcher and Flamethrowers, as well as Miniguns and Heavy Machineguns. Big Weapons don't even show up in the game in any real capacity until New Reno. This is because Energy Weapons and Big Weapons are seperate, and Big Guns are comparitively rare. ![]() People consistently ignore this for a Tag Skill. So while it's excellent in the short-term, Small Guns is not that great in the long run. It is very easy to build this skill up as a consequence, and thus it is somewhat of questionable value in the long run of the game when compared to the other gun skills. Even with a lackluster character, a starting % of over 45 for the Small Guns skill is not unheard of. On the other hand, however, Small Guns skills for characters is, in general, quite high to start. This said, it's a great Tag Skill to have, if only because you'll be blundering over tons of small arms, from the inefficient Pipe Rifle to the jaw-droppingly effective M72 Gauss Rifle. From Pistols and SMGs to Rifles and Shotguns, these are all covered by the Small Guns Skill. This is because Small Guns are the single most common weapon type. Regardless of player, this is the most commonly-taken Tag Skill. ![]() This said, below I discuss which Tag Skills are good to take, which ones are decent, and which ones are complete dung. This is because each character only gets 3 of them - or four with the Tag! perk. People agonize over which three Tag Skills to take. These skills automatically gain 2% at level-up, and when you spend a skill point, gains 2% per point spent rather than one. When you make a new character, you can choose 3 Tag Skills - skills your character specializes in. What many have a hard time with, however, is the Tag Skills in the game. Fallout and its sequel, Fallout 2 are great games. ![]()
